How to avoid being stranded on the cyber highway.

Google launched their new search engine on 21APR15, incorporating an algorithm that favors "mobile-friendly" sites. Dire consequences were predicted for the unprepared. For companies accustomed to ranking high on a search page, USA Today predicted that smartphone searches could have them dropping nine or ten places.

The End is Not Near, But...
Like the Y2K problem (remember that?), Mobilegeddon is not the end of the world. However, Google's new ranking algorithms should be proactively addressed. If you are not mobile-ready make your website conform soon. Your Google search engine page ranking will most likely drop if you don't.

The Road to Mobile-Ready Salvation
It's easy to make your web presence mobile-friendly—we’re talking about responsive web design. "A site designed with RWD adapts the layout to the viewing environment by using fluid, proportion-based grids, flexible images, and CSS3 media queries, an extension of the @media rule, in the following ways:
  • The fluid grid concept calls for page element sizing to be in relative units like percentages, rather than absolute units like pixels or points.
  • Flexible images are also sized in relative units, so as to prevent them from displaying outside their containing element.
  • Media queries allow the page to use different CSS style rules based on characteristics of the device the site is being displayed on, most commonly the width of the browser." Wikipedia
